Does it Matter?

The cousins just left. Boooooooo. Let's blog.

Home Cooking...
Coffee Cake. Yum. I cooked it two minutes too long. Don't do that.

Home Schooling...
The girls and the cousins played "store".  Presley learned that 50% means half (in this instance half of "eneything") Eneything is a special word that encompasses both anything and everything, leaving no room for confusion. The word really depicts the intensity of the sale.  I owe a special thanks to cousin Isabelle for the fine math lesson and the wonderful shopping experience. Presley learns more in one day from Isabelle than in months with me or any other teacher. Seriously.
Home Decorating...

Lets focus on landscaping this week.

What yard doesn't need an all seasons sledding hill? A little shovel like the one pictured will do just fine to dig out any annoying rocks. Just toss it to the side-like when done. Absolutely no need to put your equipment away after use.

All seasons sledding hills are very convenient for times when there is no snow or otherwise nothing else to do. Warning: make sure you pick up any small human beings standing at the bottom. If possible, instruct children to keep their bodies inside the sled. I'm not sure this ended well for Zoe.
Another landscaping idea would be to make mud, get your patio really dirty, and dig a random hole. This will give your backyard a real "kids play here" look. That is important for keeping it real. We like to keep it real.

Sam's Town...

Sam has found her voice. And by that, I mean she screams her bloody head off all the time. It is horrible. We had eight girls in the house and all of them together didn't have a chance being heard above Sam's obnoxious screams. I don't know what to do. What should I do? It is horrible. She needs signs. She needs words. She needs to stop screaming. It is horrible.
Uncle Keith gave her a new Native name "Sam Screaming Weasel"
Screaming Weasel needed a nap.

My sister commented that Sam occasionally has an "I know something you don't" look on her face. I think I see what she is talking about here as Sam hovers above Ruby. Ruby has some unique facial expressions of her own. These two might be trouble someday.
Actually, she is getting down right gangster on us. Help.
Nevermind! She is my beautiful precious angel baby. That is final.

Zoe's Creations...

Zoe had some awesome quotes this past week. Let me see if I can remember... I can't. I really regret not writing kids quotes down before I forget them. Here is the only quote I remember (because it was just an hour ago)...
Zoe, "I want to play store. I miss my cousins. Mom, how many weeks did the cousins come to our house?"
Me, "They were here one week"
Zoe, "Two weeks is better"
Whoops,  this part was supposed to be funny. It was just sad. Sorry. Moving on.

Mark fixed up my dad's old camera. He used black and white film. Beautiful.
Zoe had some special time with her aunt.

and her cousins and her favorite princess (clearly Presley's favorite too).

Peanut Barrel...
Another black and white. Thanks Mark. Presley can steal an iphone faster than, I don't know, faster than something really fast.

Sometimes Peanut Barrel does really amazing things. For example, Mark took her into a store at Disneyland to get her a treat. She picked out this creature. Then she says, "platypus" which is a word I didn't even know how to spell until twenty seconds ago. This was a reminder that Presley is only going to speak words that are meaningful to her. She won't say "duck" or "bird" on demand but she will say "platypus" because, well, platypuses are important to her.

Tight squeeze.
Hello Cinderella.
So happy.

Does it Matter?

This question is borrowed from my niece Ava. When her mother asks her questions, Ava responds with an answer, but then frequently follows up with a question of her own...Does it matter? We got a kick out it, so we are dedicating this segment of the blog to Ava's question, "does it matter?"

Does it matter that Samantha Screaming Weasel Perfect Angel Baby got into the rice and poured the whole bag on the pantry floor? Answer: No
Does it matter that women breastfeed in public?
 Answer: Nope
Does it matter if nobody thinks you are funny?
Answer:  Yeah, It would be sad.
Does it matter if Dads show affection towards their kids?
Answer: Most definitely.
Does it matter if you don't have front teeth?
Answer: Yes, eventually you'll need them.
Does it matter if you go to the beach on a chilly day and swim with your clothes on?
Answer: Maybe
Does it matter if you eat too much sugar?
Answer: Yes, too much sugar is toxic.
Does it matter if your four older sisters have brown hair and you have red?
Answer: Not at all.
Does it matter if grown men sit in strollers?
Answer: Maybe
Does it matter?
Answer: Please God help us understand what matters and what doesn't...That matters

Brilliancy

Home School...
Find somebody else to read to your kids. Thanks Jessica.
Home Cooking...

This is nut flour (for honey nut bars). These bars were my first attempt at cooking Paleo. If you try the following recipe, my suggestion is to use something like craisins instead of raisins. Raisins belong in almost nothing. Also, add chocolate chips. Chocolate chips belong in almost everything.
http://thepaleokitchen.blogspot.com/2009/12/honey-nut-bars.html

No worries if you have no idea what I am talking about with this "Paleo" stuff. I don't either. I consumed an entire box of Girl Scout cookies the very next day. Thin Mints are where it is at!!!

Home Decorating...
Presley is the next Emily Henderson. Straight lines are boring.
To get this look, make sure your curtain rods cost no more than five dollars. Kmart worked well for us. Then, find a frustrated child. Have that child pull the curtain with all their might. If you are lucky, the rod will bend just right and result in the above angle. Presley charges $10/hour.

Peanut Barrel...
We had another snow day!
Peanut took Zoe for a ride.
Zoe's Creations...

Even though we had a lot of snow this week, Zoe had fairies on her mind.

Zoe asked for tape to hold the fairy's dress in place (made of organic natural fibers (leaves)). Brilliancy. Just found out that was a word on spell-check... Brilliancy. Now, I am going to title this blog Brilliancy.
Zoe hoped the card board fairy house would keep them warm during the snow storm.
This sign was an absolute necessity. Zoe did not want Leprechauns to invade the house. But, as it turns out Leprechauns are fairies too. So, Zoe has become an equal opportunity lender for all fairies including Leprechauns!
Zoe painted the fairy house pink and relocated it to the garden to politely attract the right kind of fairies ( i.e. garden fairies)
Have you ever wondered what i.e. and i.g. really stand for? I did.

Zoe made another fashion statement.  She wore that one glove and one earing all day!
Sam's Town...
Sam likes the snow too.
Big girl.
Sam painting with water. Brilliancy.

Aunties...
Mom, Aunt Lucy, and Aunt Sarah came to visit for the weekend.  I have the best aunts in the world. Tons of fun! Tons of brilliancy! I.E...
Real quick note here: My mother is amazing! She is loving...God-loving, people-loving, nature-loving, fun-loving and sometimes adventure-loving. She is amazing and she is my hero. The following will high-light her adventure-loving side and brilliancy. Let's start with one of her famous quotes, "I have three lives...My home life, my work life, and my Sacajawea life!"

Look at that tree! I'm gonna get in that hole.
Watch me.
Wait.
Brilliancy: a quality that outshines the usual  wordnetweb.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

I stumbled upon the video mode to capture some bonus material.

Mom took time to encourage my brother.

Mom, thanks for outshining the usual!

Vapor 2

The title of this blog is Vapor 2. Because like a vapor, I somewhat have a "now you see me, now you don't" quality. Sorry! It rears its ugly head in relationships (not good at staying in touch) and now my blogging consistency...not to imply you are all out there waiting for me. But, I want to declare to my friends, I love you! I miss you! I think about you! I am sorry! And, if you do read my blog, I am sorry about my inconsistency.

The 2 part is because, I am not the first person in the world to act like a vapor. My sister is the worst. She will call. We will be right in the middle of an excellent conversation, when mid-sentence she will proclaim, "Gotta Go" and immediately hang up. This isn't the frustrating part, because as busy mommies know, "Gotta Go" happens fast. For example, Sam dipping toilet paper rolls into the toilet to dampen the toilet paper roll before eating it can happen rather fast. I understand the "gotta go".  The problem is that she will disappear for days. I will call back all day to make sure everything is okay and nothing. She doesn't answer, she is just gone. So, I named her Vapor. She, then, in return, named me Vapor 2. Then, I renamed her Vapor 1. "Vapor 1 this is Vapor 2 are you there?"

I have much more to say. but for fear of boring you, I'll start uploading some pictures and hopefully have the opportunity later as this blog evolves.

Home School...
Again, I don't know why I include a "home school" section in this blog. I can't let it go.  I have concluded this section will depict various forms of home schooling...some formal, some not so formal (also known as mothering). Whatever. Just let me relabel everything and call it home schooling. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

Physical therapy component to my version of home schooling.  Again, PT can be an informal thing.

Just look at her developing balance and coordination.

During our recent vacation with Grandpa and Grandma, we took a field trip to the Zoo.  Great opportunity to build some vocabulary with Presley.

Like here, in the spirit of building vocabulary,  I exclaimed to the girls enthusiastically "Look girls...um...birds...pink pelicans...they are pink." Zoe, "mom, they look like flamingos" Whatever.
Zoe is teaching herself to write the alphabet. I'm too busy studying birds.
I jumped in and helped with the numbers. Zoe's #4  and #5 might need further assistance.
I almost forgot to mention the other section in our Science lesson at the Zoo. Presley learned about endangered species.  Out of compassion...
She hopped in the helicopter to go save the polar bears.
Home cooking...
Kids at the table. In my search for evidence that I indeed cook, this is all I could find in the picture library since last blog. Seriously, why would kids be at a table unless their mother cooked? Ask yourself that before judging.
More evidence. Maybe this piece of evidence is more suggestive of owning a toaster rather than  indeed "home cooking"
All done!
Home Decor...

Please look three pictures up to the girls sitting at the table. Look above Sam's head. That is Zoe's contribution to home decorating. I have none these days. But, I am including this section in my blog because I am recommitting myself to each and every section that I originally planned on going into this blog.  However, I did recently join Pinterest to get inspired in this department. It did not inspire me. It played a trick on me. I was deceived and thought it was inspiring me as I wasted 3 hours of my life looking at every person's pins as fast as I could with my eyes bugging out of my head. My inspiration quickly turned into anxiety. I all of a sudden wanted to do like 100 house projects including 30 freezer make-ahead meals. I wanted to do each and every kid activity that any parent has ever blogged about all while making my very own kids' desks from cabinet doors. And, I also realized my immediate need to dress much cooler, wear tights under gray wool shorts with tall socks and cool boots, and not to forget my green wool jacket. Wait, I don't have a green jacket or wool shorts. I am a bit too results-driven to stumble upon such a website without proper mental preparation. My "to-do list" is too long already. I have to remind myself daily that God will give me the resources and abilities each and every day to do the things He has planned for me. I get into trouble adding my plans to His. Next time I visit Pinterest, I will be prepared. I will say to myself, "No!No! you don't need to make a year's supply of laundry detergent and turn your dresser into a doll house today...Just go make dinner and say your prayers.

Home Life...

Zoe loves playing in the snow. We had a couple snow days this year.  Apparently, when it snows in California, people lose their minds.  I will illustrate with the following facts: Snow storm hits. Roads get horrible. School gets called off at 10:30am during the worst of the storm. Roads get worse. Teachers call all parents to come get kids from school ASAP. Everybody is now driving on these roads. Schools use intercoms and megaphones to release one student at a time to a line of hundreds of parents that are standing in the cold. Roads get worse. Everybody takes their kids home on these roads. Nobody knows how to drive in snow. The truck in front of me randomly runs into a telephone pole. Everybody's life is now in danger including my family's. Two hours later storm passes. Roads are plowed. Everything is fine. California has just turned a two hour snow storm into a natural disaster.

Zoe was happy! She knows what to do in a snow storm.

Wasn't sure here if Zoe was doing snow angels or if Presley took her out.
Presley is just fine with snow days too.
Just fine.
Then, why the weird face Pres?
Sam just likes the fashion of it all.
Turns into mud a day later anyway! No Montana white winters here.

Peanut Barrel...
Peanut Barrel. Let's unpack her nickname.. Mark Mancuso (miss you, your family, and your food) called her Peanut on one of those first precious days after bringing her home. I am suddenly overwhelmed thinking about those first days...God gave us the exact friends we needed at the exact moment we needed them. For helping in hardship and nicknaming my child, thanks again Mark and gang. As for the Barrel, our very own Mark Moberg gave her that one. Completely random. No great story. It just stuck.
Grandma and Presley exploring along the beach.

As always, Presley did a lot of ipad exploring too. This kind of activity in this particular position is not that helpful for her newly diagnosed scoliosis.
Zoe's Creations...

"It's a castle, a ring, me, and a necklace."
Ever wonder where to put your vaseline? Zoe will find a place.
Feeding her animals.

Building sand castles with Dad. Waiting to put the feather on top.

Love you Zoe!

Sam's Town
Doll Baby eating sand.
Loves to be held by Papa ( Presley nicknamed Grandpa Bob)

Happy girl.
More Vacation...

Grandma and Zoe exploring.
I'm done naming animals, but Mark took a great picture of this bear thing at the Zoo. Is it a panda?

Back to the beach. I don't know what these are either. I'm from Dakota. Clams? Mussels?
Pretty sure this is a crab. We had a stare down. I almost stepped on this guy.
Cool crab. Love San Diego beaches!

Grandma Mary found a bunch of starfish on her explorations. Mark took this photo. This vacation was one of the most amazing encounters I've had with nature. It was amazing. The real deal.
She actually peeled a starfish off of a rock for the girls to touch. Can't do that in Dakota.

Watched dolphins play. No need to visit Sea World.
Back to blonde hair for those that keep up with my hair color.
Home Flash Back...

Since we talked earlier about Peanut.
